It’s a completely free and extremely simple hosting site that is entirely user-funded. I’ve been using it for many of the images you see in my posts on this forum.
The current state of public image hosting services online are absolutely awful right now, many of the big names have been overrun by advertisement and bloat, so a site like catbox is an amazing breath of fresh air and I believe independent services like this should be supported for as long as possible.
They recently got their Patreon taken down, for reasons explained on their site, and this put them in a pretty scary situation. Fortunately, many users came to their support and donated directly, successfully funding them for the month. But we’ll have to see if that support can be sustained…
Services like these keep the internet healthy and clean, so check it out and support them if you can - they also offer merchandise if you’d like something more tangible in return.
